Accor Hotels – Porter House Hotel Sydney – M Gallery

In the last year, a number of high-profile luxury hotels have opened in Sydney. These include the QT Newcastle and the Ace Hotel in Surry Hills. Now, Accor has added another high-end hotel to the mix – the Porter House Hotel Sydney – M Gallery. Despite its new aesthetic, this hotel has a classic aesthetic and has located in a heritage-listed building.

Heart of Sydney’s City Center

The Porter House Hotel Sydney – M Gallery has Accor’s new hotel in the heart of Sydney’s city center. It has set to open this spring. Joleen has over two decades of experience in the hospitality industry, having previously worked at the Sebel Quay West Suites and Apartments and the Novotel in Glen Waverley, Melbourne.

Joleen Hurst has the extensive industry experience and leadership skills. She will  responsible for leading the hotel’s sales and marketing activities. She will reporting to the chief executive of Accor.

Experience in the Hospitality Industry

Josh Tyler brings 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He most recently worked as the Executive Chef at Mona Farm in Braidwood, NSW. Before that, he has a general manager at a five-star villa complex in Bali, where he oversaw the activities of 76 employees. Josh brings fresh energy and a focus on personalized service to the hotel.

Extensive Leadership and Industry Experience

Ms Hurst has a long history in hospitality, including as one of the first female general managers in Australia and the first recipient of the NSW Premier’s Award for ‘Most Outstanding Contribution to Tourism. She has internationally qualified and has spoken at various industry events. She also serves on the board of Health share NSW, and has a founding member of the Accor Diversity group.

The Hotel is a Heritage-Listed Building

The Porter House Hotel Sydney has an elegant heritage-listed hotel that boasts 131 residential apartments and a multi-level dining experience. The building has originally a tobacco factory that has later transformed into a retail shopfront for leather merchant George Johnson and Sons. Its interior has adorned with warm and earthy tones, rich woods and gold and brass finishes.

Tobacco Factory

The historic building dates back to 1876. The original building has constructed for a tobacco factory owned by Hugh Dixon. Later, the building has leased to WW Campbell & Co and the famous leather merchant George Johnson & Sons. Today, this iconic heritage building has renovated and refurbished to create a chic and sophisticated hotel.

It Blends Heritage and Modernism

The recent rise in the popularity of modernism has spurred an interest in both heritage and modern design. Modernism has a style of architecture that emphasizes the use of technology and materials in the construction of buildings. Its supporters believe that the modern world will render many older styles of architecture obsolete. Le Corbusier, for example, believed that buildings should functional machines, much like cars. Modernist designers often reject traditional decorative motifs and instead favor geometrical forms.

Accor’s 400th Hotel in Australia and The Pacific

Accor has announced the opening of the new Porter House Hotel Sydney, which will open on the corner of Castlereagh and Bathurst Streets in the city. The new boutique hotel will have 122 rooms, 130 residential apartments, and a trendy F&B precinct. The property has originally mooted for a fledgling fashion brand, Silkari, but will now  operated by Accor. The hotel has expected to open by Dec 2020 and will the group’s 400th in the Australian and Pacific market.

Novotel Sydney Darling Harbour

The company first entered the country in 1991, with the Novotel Sydney Darling Harbour, and has since stepped up its expansion plans. In 2017, Accor bought the Mantra brand, which owned 127 hotels across the country. In the next few years, Accor plans to open 11 more hotels in Australia and New Zealand, including the first of its 25hours brand.
